How to find low competition keywords for free

Free SEO

If you are an online-based business entrepreneur, you are pretty much likely to familiar with the term keyword. Keyword means basically the search term people usually look up on the internet.

Suppose you are looking for keywords on earning money online, what would you try? You would probably go for the most expected search term which would be “how to earn money online free” But that is not the way to find low competition keyword as everyone would compete for that. Instead, you can try "how to earn money online free as a part-timer" so that you find keywords with low competition to get a higher potential for being turned up onto a person's search list. There is no point in writing content nobody will read.

Although there are lots of tools that can find them (e.g. SEMRush, Ahrefs), these are not free and definitely not 100% accurate. Therefore, we will provide some free ways to find easy keywords instead.

Neil Patel

One free tool is https://app.neilpatel.com from Neil Patel, the most popular face on the game of SEO. Some suggestions:

  • Enter your competitors’ domain and see keywords with low difficulties
  • Enter long-tail keywords (e.g. instead of “how to earn money online free”, enter “how to earn money online free for a single mom”)

Remember that it is not accurate too but it is usually underestimated so we would take any keywords with low competition/difficulties as long as there are some searches,

Social media tags

The hashtag tradition is another great and useful tool to determine current hot topics. For example, using Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest, it is very easy for you to find and locate trending topics in current times. These keywords won't even be picked up by keyword research tools usually.

Google Keyword Planner

This is an effective tool as it was meant for an advertiser to know what keyword to target (people who pay Google lots of money to show up above you). To get started, enter a general idea of the niche market of yours and you will find related keywords surrounding it. Low competition keywords would be those with low bids and some search traffic. (Usually, those are not transactional searches meaning people are just doing informational queries)

Google Autocomplete

This is our favorite tool to preview all the long-tail terms which are being searched. While using this tool when you enter a keyword and let Google autocomplete what you are searching for as you enter it. This would be exactly the same as how a user would stumble to your search term.

This is basically a handful of excellent tools and they are all absolutely free to use.

Other Keyword Research Tools

There are also many keyword researching apps that can help you such as longtail pro-SEM Rush keywordtool.io, Buzzsumo, and Ubersuggest.

There are also some popular bloggers who consistently post tips and tricks and ways to turn more and more traffic on your website using them.

Why go for low competition keywords?

For example, if you search make money online then this would be a super-competitive broad type keyword. But instead of this if you search how to make online as a 13-year-old boy on Instagram which is a rather long-tailed version of the keyword. And obviously, that would have fewer searches. But with this you had you would have a better chance of fighting to rank for it.

Low competition keywords are basically what is called or known as a long-tail keyword for them. Long-tail keywords may not bring as much as traffic as the others but it is easier to rank for it. Once you have consistently ranked your keywords on specific niches it would be much easier to use your popularity than to create more and more traffic bringing contents.

After you have consistently ranked many of your contents in low competition keywords, it is easier to go for other keywords and to get more and more traffic to your website much easier than before. It's like building a base platform for construction.

The content still matters with high bounce rate

Managing website contents and search engine optimization can help in your website launch of a product besides using paid advertisements. However, your content still matters the most. Bounce rates are easily above 80%, so every 8 in 10 users just leave after finding you.

As a content writer or a blog writer, you must create value to your visitors. Basically, people are going to come to your website only if they see your website right? And exactly when are they going to see your website? When your website has its contents arranged and titled in such a manner that people usually search for most commonly. if the content of your website is not up to the expectations of what usually people search for, then obviously nobody is going to find your website or share your contents thus you’ll have zero traffic.

That's not something why you decide your website for. Website is always meant to provide useful contents to its visitors and to help the creators and money from it.

Understand Users Intent of Low Competition Keywords

Suppose it's summer season and you want to start your website on tips for summers. Like it could be skin treatment tips for traveling tips for camping guideline or any other thing relating to this time period. Obviously, it's a good place to start your business but have you ever considered how exactly are you going to organize your website that can create more traffic for you?

You need to find and arrange the keywords in your web content in such a manner that it is first of all searchable by many people but yet has to be of less competition. Because if you pick a very popular keyword that it is a genuine proposition that your website may turn up on the search list of many people. but this will also cause your web content to enter into a ground with a large and massive amount of competitive websites. so basically the chance of you and your content being clicked on wood gradually reduce.

Lastly, remember patience

When it comes to search traffic, you must be very patient prior to reaching the peak of your content traffic. Even if you produce great content. it requires 3-6 months for your page to rank 1. For a beginner, it will probably take you that time to reach page 1. Nevertheless, just try and learn what is good content and what people like.
